The Green Party gained its first ever seat on Durham County Council at the local elections on 6th May, 2021.
Our party co-ordinator Jonathan Elmer won one of two seats in the Brandon Division. His victory was the culmination of years of hard work.
In 2021 The Party had more candidates in County Durham than ever before – 16 compared to eight in the previous elections. More than 6,600 people in the county voted Green.
Labour lost control of the council for the first time in its history. It is now ‘No Overall Control’ (NOC). Jonathan has joined the alliance of Conservative, Lib Dem and Independents to move the council and the county forward.
